You may you realize this, but I was not always an artist. In fact, I didn’t actually attend art school until I was 30 and I hadn’t done any drawing up to that point. I had dabbled in various crafts that rely on other people’s imagery to create, but I wanted to create work of my own from scratch.
At the time, I was working a corporate job and making good money as an H.R. Manager, but I knew that wasn’t what I wanted for the rest of my life. So at age 30, I quit my job and went to art school.
It was super scary as I was giving up steady and good income AND I had no artistic skills. OMG. But I was determined and my risk really paid off as I am super lucky to have been a FT artist now for 13 years. In fact, September 1, 2021 will be my 13 year freelance artist anniversary.
Not everyone has the luxury of taking the kind of risk that I did, but I can assure you that I wasn’t set up as well as I should have been, but there is no time like the present and life is short as shit. I hope this story will inspire you to think about your options if you are feeling that need for a change!
