About Me

Brandi Powell graduated from Grandview College with a BA in Graphic Design & Fine Art in 2008 and has been a freelance artist since graduation.

The female figure has always been the focus of my work, regardless of medium. I am a woman, I understand women and I enjoy creating work that represents what I know.

My figures are deconstructed in sewing pattern style to represent that we are all made up of the sum of our individual parts and experiences. Unfilled figures are juxtaposed against a background of intense texture which represents the chaos that surrounds us. Our body being the protector and guard against the things that attempt to overpower.

The creation of my work starts with various fibers such as cord, rope, velvet, wool & cotton yarn and finally handspun art yarns that I spin on my spinning wheel.

My work means the world to me. I choose art everyday. Thank you for taking the time to view and consider my work.
